Living it up during Fashion's Night Out

Guest post written by Karen Robertson

I don't think that I need to tell you how excited I was about Fashion's Night Out this year. This was the first year I was living in the city and could actually participate in all of it, so I was super excited! The past two years I simply dreamed about all of the things that I could go and see during it once I finally moved there. Well, you probably wouldn't be surprised that I started out planning early so that I could cover as much ground as possible.

While I was online looking that stuff up, I ran across some info on internet service providers in my area. I showed it to my boyfriend and after we looked through it a little bit, we decided to change over internet service to it at our apartment.

I mapped out all of the celebrities that I wanted to see during the night, including Daniel Radcliffe, Sarah Jessica Parker and Samuel L. Jackson. Well, I did get to see all three of them and it was so neat! But I also picked up this really cute Tory Burch bag while I was out!

The popularity of "Scrub Clothing" from a former pajama bottom wearer!

Even if working at a hospital isn’t one of the major life skills choices for the person who looks and buys scrub clothing

There is a look for you that is professional and very comfortable. Not that this type of clothing isn’t chic or a decent wardrobe for anyone who likes to be stylish without the pain of added fabric or association with actual doctor’s orders. You can combine the looks of a “scrub uniform” to please your natural eye for style!

I remember when wearing pajama bottoms was the look for the homemaker or chic school-age junior girls! This look is still around, because the other day I just seen a girl making herself look pretty, carrying some groceries, in a cropped black top and her very own version of wearing pajama bottoms. I mean fashion is meant to be stylish and play within the rulebooks, but I favor the overwhelming courage it takes to have the creativity to wear exactly what a person likes. This is what inspires couture and modern design and their classically skilled designers into new eras of sophistication and brief encounters with adventures of optimal advanced style-cultures! How do we think "The Goth Look" got started?  If you want modern looking clothing to go with simple uniform business attire that speaks to the world of medical and professional expertise, then owning and wearing scrubs are what to get on your “must-have” list of fashionable finds for stylized individual wear, as well as, professional looking business wear. There are many sidebar links to browse on the official website of “Blue Sky Scrubs” that will have your eyes glued, not only to the names and designs of the vast array of scrub clothing inventory, but at the vivid colors to choose from with a detail that is worth the decision to buy online and be a regular customer for as long as your profession is around; and for centuries nurses and doctors alike have walked the planks of destiny at hospitals and clinics around the world. Now discover what is making the "grade" in looks at these prestigious halls of medical care that care for the professional making all the right moves from room to room!

Tips to have your interior furniture cleaned by professionals

There are a few things to consider when choosing quality cleaning professionals for interior carpet or furniture jobs. When you do any online research in regard to professional-type cleaning, it’s good to know what you are paying for and trying to accomplish inside of your home. The best way to navigate and calculate how and when this task should take place is to price some of the methods by looking at the upholstery or carpets you want cleaned. Because different upholstery and carpets have different needs according to use, the cleaning techniques may vary due to sun damage, wear and tear, yearly usage and as to where a piece of furniture or carpeting is laid to see the extra in-home traffic come through for years to come. Here are a few practical furniture cleaning tips, before considering having your things done by a professional cleaner...

1. Is this an “easy to clean” project for the cleaners?
2. Is traffic high in the area of your home or office area?
3. Is there much direct sun damage to the areas of carpet or furniture?
4. Is your carpet worn or upholstery used too much?
5. No matter what size, is the area cleanable due to a light or dark color?
6. Have spills and smells accumulated to make the area unattractive to be in?
7. Is your sofa, carpet or home area way going to need a good protectant?

Answering no or yes to most of these questions would make your home, one that is probably going to be at a higher or lower rate, due to the very careful methods of cleaning being processed for the duration of the job. Keep in mind that the easier it is to clean a surface or area, the methods are simpler and the costs are going to be in a range that is more affordable and risk-free.
The main concern of all cleaning professionals is safety and your results for a cleaner environment that smells good and looks great for the long run! Making sure this happens is as simple as providing a fabric protector that is going to keep the spills and things that run inside the home from making it’s print less apparent. Before any cleaning operation will begin, the professionals will always come in and assess the quality and quantity of your job, to see if your furniture or carpet can be done in an effortless and reliable method for "low-cost."
Evaluating cleaning situations for the appropriate estimate cost, are what makes a home owner feel at ease with the entire operation and make arrangements to clear the home and have the professionals finish in a timely manner. They will make sure to take no time in doing their job right.

Getting Rid of Stuff

Guest post written by my buddy Hans Hale

I moved from my long time home last month and I am still working on getting everything together in my new house. Doing some of the work was pretty easy, like signing up for Clear wireless internet service and finding movers. But the real adventure started when I had to unpack and settle in. I thought it would only take me a few days to finish unpacking, but it has been almost a month now and there are still full boxes lying around. I don’t think I realized how much unimportant stuff I have accumulated over the years. I need to go through all of the boxes and set aside a pile for donations, and a pile to keep. I just don’t have space for all of the things I decided to keep. I guess I should have given away all of my unwanted possessions before I moved, but I worried that I would miss them once I was in my new place. Now that I’m in my new home I feel totally different. These things that I felt so attached to only a short time ago, are just a nuisance to me now.

Vivienne Westwood: a catwalk review (re-blog)

Catwalk Review: Vivienne Westwood Red Label Spring/Summer 2012

vivienne-westwood-red-label-catwalkVivienne Westwood Red Label Spring/Summer 2012. Photo: PA
WHO? Vivienne Westwood Red Label

IN A NUTSHELL: Ethereal and nymph-like, but Westwood style. These Spring/Summer styles had attitude.

BEG, BORROW OR STEAL: As always, Westwood's tailoring was the highlight of her collection, but the use of softer shades (pale blues and light grey), turned sharp suits on their head. This was playful power-dressing. Other favourites included boyfriend cardigans worn as belted dresses, oversized denim shirts, dropped-waist silk sun-dresses and a cherry red, cleavage-boosting, strapless gown. We also can't fail to mention the cute, leather clutches, studded with the Westwood emblem.

F-ROW: Jacquetta Wheeler, Erin O'Connor, Pamela Anderson, Paloma Faith, Sadie Frost, Tracey Emin, Kelis

VERDICT: Westwood's contrasting patterns, shapes and textures looked all the more wearable in pastel and neutral tones. Yes, the incredible hair and makeup always adds to the spectacle of the show, but each and every design screamed look at me, in its own, unique way.

Mention of France, some luxury brands must be the first thing appear in one's mind. FRANCE is deserved to be called "the birthplace of luxury fashion". Many familiar brands, like LV, Chanel, Dior, Hermès all have nearly a history of one hundred years. Still they're popular all over the world nowadays and favored by most women.

No matter what you think of Hermès, it is just boutique for people to return to the embrace of traditional elegance.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley goes nude at the Burberry Body party

Showing off quite a lot of her famous Burberry Body, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley opted for a nude, lingerie-adjacent slip dress for the brand's Los Angeles party on Wednesday night.

To be honest, we're not entirely convinced that it's not lingerie, or at least a nightgown. Anyway, minimal makeup and jewellery (in fact, no accessories beyond that 'it's not an engagement ring, honest' ring) plus some nude strappy heels completed the stripped-down look and showed off the fab figure which landed her the Burberry job in the first place.

Chanel's Fall 2011 Eyewear Campaign, Modeled by Claudia Schiffer

For Chanel's Fall 2011 eyewear collection, Karl Lagerfeld turned to one of Chanel's most iconic fixtures: the chain. Used to reinterpret classic Chanel eyewear shapes — aviators, square frames, cat-eyes — the chains are woven with lambskin leather and come in muted Fall hues like wine, taupe and navy. For the ad campaign, Lagerfeld employed another Chanel classic: long-time muse Claudia Schiffer. See all five of the Lagerfeld-shot ads here.

Our famed designer: Karl Lagerfeld (is soooo cute without his sunglasses)!

>> It's a rare moment when Karl Lagerfeld is without his sunglasses. Watchers of the documentary Lagerfeld Confidential have had the opportunity to see the designer sketch, sunglasses off, on film since it premiered a few years ago, and over the weekend, Lagerfeld was snapped in Saint Tropez with his bodyguard Sebastien Jondeau, eating at a cafe without his usual eyewear.

Kate Middleton's Topshop shopping spree!

It's no secret that Kate Middleton loves a high street buy - every time she steps out in a Reiss frock or a Zara number, it becomes an instant sell-out - but yesterday the Duchess paid a visit to one of our favourite retail therapy stops: Topshop.

Kate Middleton went shopping in Topshop in Kensington yesterdayHigh street style: Duchess Kate paid a visit to her local Topshop. Above, wearing McQueen. Photo:PA
Kate popped in to the Topshop store in Kensington - just a stone's throw away from her London residence, Kensington Palace - to partake in a spot of low-key afternoon shopping

And no royal treatment for the Duchess of Cambridge: she browsed the rails, used the fitting rooms and queued at the till, JUST LIKE US.

Want to know what she bought? Of course you do.

There were no dramatic departures from style (she does, after all, have a royal reputation to uphold) - and her buys included a ladylike velvet-trim bouclé jacket, £65, a teal polka-dot pencil skirt, £38, and a pair of gold feather-motif earrings.

"She was low-key and casual," a Topshop staff member told People magazine. "She seemed so normal."

"She was really chilled out despite some customers in the queue behind her saying, 'Oh my God it's her' and pointing – she didn't seem fazed by it all and she was really sweet."

Kate's due to make a public appearance with William later today, to open the children's cancer centre at the Royal Marsden Hospital.

Street Style: Premda Designs For Ralph Lauren and Likes To Jump Rope

Streetwalker

Name: Premda
Occupation: Designer at Ralph Lauren
Where are you from originally? Germany, but I grew up in India.
How would you describe your style? Usually, pretty classic.
What is the most prominent color in your wardrobe? It used to be black, but I’m trying not to wear so much of it. Growing up in India, everyone wore so much color. My friends would always laugh and say “all black everything” to my closet.

I wonder where we got the A-Line skirt from....?

Basics Instinct

Johan Lindeberg's hip basics.

July 2011
After 20 years in the industry, as CEO of Diesel North America and creative director of J. Lindeberg and William Rast, Johan Lindeberg has finally figured out what he wants: 100 percent freedom. And with the launch of BLK DNM, his line of simple, well-made basics, he has achieved just that. “I’m following my personal tastes,” he says. “And that’s all I can do now as a designer.” It’s a philosophy that seems to be working. Taking cues from downtown New York—where Lindeberg lives and has just opened the label’s first shop—his debut collection is rife with the sort of unfussy pieces that the below–14th Street crowd wants to wear: slim-cut cashmere sweaters, lambskin motorcycle jackets, silk blouses, and slightly high-waisted jeans. Filling out the line are a musky unisex fragrance, sunglasses done in collaboration with Moscot, and a culture magazine called BLK DNM Gazette. Shoes and bags are to come. “Someone called me the Tom Ford of downtown,” says Lindeberg with a laugh, referring to the speed with which he has built a full-fledged brand.“It’s just the manifestation of what I’ve been thinking about my whole career” (blkdnm.com).

Ren & Stimpy

Thanks for the article from Adrian Waller

Ren and Stimpy was one of the greatest adult cartoons to ever air on television. I was given a DVD of this show for my birthday, and I love to view it on my satellite tv with old friends.(http://www.expertsatellite.com!) We laugh so much at old episodes of this show, because we were in college when it came out. We simply love every part of this show and think it is one of the best ever. It is such a great show and I love it so much.

The humor of this show borders on the controversial. I am always so surprised this show could air for as long as it did, given its crazy and controversial content. This show seriously had some of the most irreverent humor of the 1990s and the writers were wholly unapologetic for it. There is nothing I love more than watching Ren and Stimpy and picking out the bits that I missed when I was younger. I understand so much of this show more now, which makes it so much more enjoyable to watch. I truly love this show and I think it is one of the best ones that any young adult can watch for some great and classic humor. This is the sort of show that can keep a person laughing for hours on end. I truly think this show rocks.

A fashion journalist has a conversation with Model: Ines del la Fressange

(a re-blog)...
With the collections wrapping up in Paris, who better to answer my questionnaire than one of France's most iconic figures, Ines de la Fressange. The former model turned Roger Vivier bigwig opens up about her dislike for aggressive and stingy men who wear short socks, goes cryptic on the topic of her mother, and suggests we all run to the grocery to buy a jar of Nutella
When I wake up... I smile even if I don't want to. It helps transform my ideas.
Before I go to bed... I apply Dior nail cream and Revitalift from L'Oréal. This is a religion.
A well-dressed man/woman... usually they are anonymous but let's say Freida Pinto (sic).
Women should always... have sense of humor and clean teeth.
Men should never... be aggressive and stingy or wear short socks.
The best thing that's been said about me... "she is beyond stunning" but I can't remember who said it!
The biggest misconception about me... is that I have plenty of clothes.
If I weren't doing what I'm doing today... I'd be a psychoanalyst, painter, ebeniste or gardener.
My legacy... is my imagination.
A great idea... is Nutella giving 1€ for every box sold to help alleviate starvation in the world.
Botox is... expensive, ephemeral and awful.
My mother... is not really the grandmother of my children. It's a pity.
The soundtrack of my life... is Douce France by Charles Trenet.
The future... is about trying to stop talking about the past. People always ask me about the past.
Happiness... is having at least an "Ines" in this world!
There's a time and place for... everything you love. Just take time to make a list of your priorities.
There is too much... waste. Waste of food, waste of money, waste of time, waste of words.
In the end... I am happy. I know it and I hope you are too!

Patrick Scwarzenegger Talks Modeling...

Patrick Schwarzenegger, son of Arnold and Maria Shriver, talked to Details about what he's been up to lately.
It turns out that the 17-year-old already has a clothing line (he founded it at age 15, people) called Project360 that donates 10 percent of its sales to charity. The t-shirts bracelets and hoodies are sold at Bloomingdale's and Henri Bendel. But that isn't Patty's only link to the fashion biz:
He just signed on with L.A. Models, which has plans to push him for the Ralph Lauren and Armani campaigns. He's doing it to "inject some capital" into Project360 and to "get comfortable in front of the camera." But modeling "isn't going to be my permanent job. There's a lot of other things I want to do."
On hanging out with the Hollywood set:
"I just saw Tallulah over winter break," he says, referring to the daughter of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore. "I was at their house in Sun Valley." Although he just reunited with an ex, Patrick cockily refers to his tweet-mates Kendall Jenner and Selena Gomez as "girls for the future.""My eye, though," he adds, "is set on Miley."

On a future in politics:
"My mom always talks about how hard it was to grow up in a political family," Patrick says. "It's always split up, and just--I want to have fun in life. No, politics isn't on the list."

Bobbi Brown: Dress For Success Make-Up Guide and News!

Bobbi Brown isn’t in the business of painting faces just for pretty’s sake. Anyone who has read her tomes on the subject is well aware of the Brown diktat that cosmetics are a power tool—a way to help you not only look good, but feel good, too. It should come as no surprise, then, that she’s a tireless supporter of Dress for Success. A nonprofit organization committed to promoting the economic independence of disadvantaged women, DFS raises funds to provide professional attire, a network of support, and career development tools for women to get ahead. Brown is co-chairing the group’s annual “beach-chic” gala tonight in New York, and to ensure that anyone can do their part to contribute to the cause, she’s released an exclusive set, the proceeds of which will be donated to DFS. The $60 product pack includes a five-shadow Eye Palette, Lip Color in Brownie, two shades of Lip Gloss in Petal and Crystal, and a tube of Brown’s fan-favorite Extreme Party Mascara. A perfectly polished pout won’t necessarily land you a job, but it can certainly boost your confidence so you come out swinging in the interview.

Ralph Lauren and the Furniture Store...

While canvassing through a small place I found "Ralph Lauren" furniture on display at a store.  At first I didn't know that he had furniture in his production line, and then I took a look at the way it all was designed and instantly I knew that he is a fashion, style and beauty innovator!  There was a coffee-table book with all his years of styles and his family, homes and rich, rich, lifestyle showcasing some of the best in Western, Art Deco and City looks.  I saw some models that had modeled for him in their early years and how they had changed.  I wish I had done something with Ralph Lauren, even if I took a picture for his fashion line in tattered, torn, fashion- jeans and a deeply-colored, rich cardigan and a wealth of all kinds of jewelry around my neck, on my fingers and wrists for the whole world's viewing pleasure and my hair in an up-do so beautiful that even the horse that I would take the picture with would get jealous...until next time..."Imani" (Style-Flasher)...

New Hotel in Paris, London, Rome? No, it's NEW YORK CITY!

1Mondrian Soho
I think this hotel get's its' style theme from the more post, post-modern, euro-asian influences.  I really like the pastel blues, with the whites, running thoroughout the  color and pattern of the decorations interior!

The Perfect Parisian Outfit...

When it comes to food and fashion, we think it's safe to say that the French have got it on lock. Nowhere has that been more apparent to us recently than at Plein Sud, a classic French-inspired brasserie located in the super chic Smyth Hotel in Tribeca (yep, just a hop, skip, and a jump from chez nous). You'll instantly feel more Euro as you waltz into the rustic yet oh-so-sophisticated dining room, with its high, weather-worn-looking wooden ceilings, intimate booths, and sweeping bar. Executive Chef Ed Cotton, who starred in Bravo's reality series (and one of our secret obsessions) Top Chef, puts his own spin on French classics like Bavette Grillée (grilled skirt steak with watercress and red wine jus). If you're really famished (and brought a bib), try the Burger Royale au Fromage, a Pat LaFrieda creation stuffed —yes, stuffed—with cheese and slathered in black truffle aïoli.

For the whole perfect outfit part, we're reccing you channel your inner Parisian. This look will go from the office 'til way late: A flared blazer that will accentuate the waistline in a good way, a Breton-striped shirt that screams St. Tropez, classic jeans (A.P.C., duh cinched with a flash of red leather, and knee-high, authentic black leather riding boots, just to give you some equestrian cred. Finish it all off with a dash of bright red lipstick. Instant gamine—no Carey Mulligan-esque microcut required.

Oh, and after you've been properly satiated, slip off the blazer, re-apply that lipstick, and head downstairs to the newly opened Toro Lounge, a dramatic bullfighting-themed lounge, to sip inventive and totally delish cocktails while the DJ spins soul and vibrant beats. Spain's not so far from France, after-all.
